Spoelstra Clarifies Remarks on Ware; Herro and Suggs Out; Dennis Shines in G League

Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra backed away from comments he made about center Kelel Ware after Thursday’s loss to Boston, telling reporters before tonight’s matchup that he did not intend to single out the 20-year-old. “I didn’t articulate that in a great way and that wasn’t fair to Kelel,” Spoelstra said, adding that he is “fully invested” in Ware’s development and that the staff will “give him everything we have” to help him reach his potential.

Ware, benched for the entire second half against the Celtics, appeared unfazed. He noted that his production eight weeks ago coincided with heavier minutes and said his focus now is to deliver the same impact in a reduced role.

Injury updates

The Heat will be without Tyler Herro against the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight. The guard is dealing with a rib contusion, but Spoelstra said the issue is not expected to keep him out long term.

Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs has been ruled out for Sunday’s game in London, marking his seventh consecutive absence. Suggs has been sidelined since sustaining a right knee MCL contusion earlier this month.
