Fourth-year forward Jeremy Sochan was expected to change teams before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, yet the San Antonio Spurs ultimately stood pat, becoming one of only three clubs league-wide to make no moves.
According to The Athletic, San Antonio explored multiple options, discussing Guerschon Yabusele and Pacome Dadiet with the New York Knicks, Dalen Terry and Julian Phillips with the Chicago Bulls, and Nick Richards with the Phoenix Suns. Unable to find an acceptable return, the Spurs opted to keep Sochan and other pieces intact.
A source told the outlet that Sochan does not plan to pursue a buyout and is likely to finish the season in San Antonio. The organization could revisit trade possibilities this summer through a sign-and-trade involving the former No. 9 overall pick.
Spurs’ Core Backs the Decision
Rookie star Victor Wembanyama welcomed the lack of roster changes, saying the front office “trusts these guys just like I do.” Teammates Stephon Castle, De’Aaron Fox, and Harrison Barnes also praised management’s stance, with Barnes noting that a winning environment reduces the need for mid-season shuffling.
Mavericks Kept Early Davis Talks Under Wraps
The Dallas Mavericks and Washington Wizards held preliminary discussions about Anthony Davis in early November before finalizing a trade agreement this week, The Athletic reported. Dallas was pleased the negotiations remained confidential, allowing the club to inform Davis directly before news became public. The Mavericks’ broader objectives—adding cap flexibility, stockpiling draft picks, and securing a point guard—were met by including Tyus Jones in the package, wrote The Dallas Morning News.
Pelicans’ Quiet Deadline, G League Relocation Plans
New Orleans dealt guard Jose Alvarado, who can become a free agent in July, but otherwise stayed inactive despite speculation surrounding Jordan Poole, Jordan Hawkins, Yves Missi, Saddiq Bey, and Dejounte Murray. Columnist Rod Walker noted that fans may be disappointed to lose a high-energy contributor while larger moves failed to materialize.
Off the court, the Pelicans advanced plans to relocate their G League affiliate from Birmingham, Alabama, to Kenner, Louisiana. The Kenner City Council unanimously approved a proposal Thursday to house the Birmingham Squadron at the city’s Pontchartrain Center. The tentative timeline calls for the team to begin play in the New Orleans suburb during the 2026-27 season.
