Dallas — Despite ongoing trade speculation, veteran center Anthony Davis is not asking to leave the Mavericks, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon said Monday on “NBA Today.” According to MacMahon, Davis hopes to sign a new deal with Dallas this summer even as the club weighs its options.
Now on a max contract worth $54.1 million this season and $58.5 million in 2026/27, the 10-time All-Star holds a $62.8 million player option for 2027/28. Any extension would overlap with top prospect Cooper Flagg’s second NBA contract and would begin when Davis is in his mid-30s, a concern for potential suitors wary of his injury history.
“The Mavericks are trying to create a viable trade market for Anthony Davis,” MacMahon said, noting that agent Rich Paul is seeking an acquiring team willing to grant a long, lucrative extension. MacMahon added that fitting all the pieces together before the trade deadline will be “very difficult.”
New Orleans
Pelicans head coach James Borrego could not guarantee guard Dejounte Murray will play this season as the 29-year-old rehabs from an Achilles tear. “He’s making a lot of progress,” Borrego told reporters over the weekend, adding that more clarity is expected within the next month.
Forward Herbert Jones, sidelined the past seven games with a right ankle sprain, is listed as questionable for Tuesday’s matchup against the Lakers. Injuries have limited Jones to 22 appearances this year, including an earlier calf strain that cost him eight contests.
San Antonio
Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama participated in full 5-on-5 work Monday and is questionable for Tuesday’s game against Memphis. The 7-foot-4 center has missed two games with a left knee bone bruise and will be reevaluated ahead of the first half of the club’s back-to-back. If he sits Tuesday, he could return Wednesday versus the Lakers.
