ORLANDO — Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley offered new details Friday on the recoveries of forwards Franz Wagner and Moritz Wagner, both sidelined since early December.
Mosley said Franz Wagner, out since Dec. 7 with a left high ankle sprain, has resumed on-court work that now includes limited contact. The third-year forward is also emphasizing cardio and conditioning as he nears a return.
Moritz Wagner, recovering from offseason surgery on his left ACL, has progressed to contact in 2-on-2 and 3-on-3 scrimmages, according to Mosley.
The club plays Memphis next Thursday in Berlin, the brothers’ home country, but Mosley cautioned that neither player is guaranteed to suit up. “You want them to be ready for that Berlin game,” he said, “but we have a long season ahead of us, and you want them to be as healthy as possible.”
Additional Southeast Notes
• Washington: Newly acquired guard Trae Young remains out with a right quad contusion and a right MCL sprain, the Wizards announced after completing Friday’s trade. The MCL issue, which cost Young time earlier this season, is expected to factor into his availability throughout the second half.
• Charlotte: LaMelo Ball came off the bench Thursday for the first time since his rookie year. Head coach Charles Lee said the move was designed to preserve the guard’s health and keep him on the floor late in games after Ball’s minutes were restricted in Wednesday’s fourth quarter.
• Coaching Carousel: Hornets coaching advisor Will Weaver is in advanced negotiations to become the next head coach of the NBL’s Brisbane Bullets. Weaver previously led the Sydney Kings during the 2019–20 season between NBA stints.
