Washington Wizards center Alex Sarr delivered a standout performance for France in a EuroBasket warm-up game on August 6, pouring in 19 points and grabbing four rebounds in just 13:49 as France beat Montenegro 81-75.

The 7-footer, drafted No. 2 overall in 2024, is coming off an All-Rookie First Team campaign in which he averaged 13.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 blocks across 67 appearances for Washington. Wizards wing Bilal Coulibaly added 10 points for France in the exhibition.

Elsewhere in the Southeast Division, the Miami Heat are focusing on the trade market rather than free agency to regain contender status, according to Ira Winderman’s reader mailbag for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Miami’s approach contrasts sharply with its 2010 free-agent haul of LeBron James and Chris Bosh; recent moves include acquiring guard Norman Powell from the Clippers in a multi-team deal.

Winderman notes that the 2026 free-agent class has thinned after a wave of extensions. All-Stars Paolo Banchero, Luka Dončić, Kevin Durant, De’Aaron Fox, Jalen Williams and James Harden have secured—or are expected to secure—new contracts, as have Chet Holmgren, Mikal Bridges and Bradley Beal. Harden and Beal retain player options for next season, while Dyson Daniels and Draymond Green remain extension-eligible.

In Charlotte, Hornets forward Grant Williams recently updated reporters on his rehabilitation from multiple knee injuries that ended his season last November.
