Magic Coaching Situation Under Scrutiny as Southeast Division Storylines Unfold

The Orlando Magic have hovered around .500 since a 10-4 surge in November and entered Sunday’s matchup with the Pelicans just a half-game ahead of the 10th-place Heat. Columnist Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel reports the organization is poised to make head coach Jamahl Mosley the fall guy for an underwhelming season, despite injuries to Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs and Anthony Black that stalled momentum. Bianchi argues the move would serve more as a public explanation for the team’s lapses in effort—highlighted by costly losses to Toronto and Atlanta—than as an indictment of Mosley’s coaching ability.

Wizards: George Done for Season

Washington will finish the year without second-year guard Kyshawn George. Head coach Brian Keefe praised George’s growth, calling his season “a huge jump” and crediting offseason work for the improvement. Keefe said the 22-year-old plans to focus on adding strength this summer and labeled him “a great example for our organization and the kind of guys we want.”

Heat: Jović Struggles With New Role

Miami forward Nikola Jović anticipated a larger role this season but has appeared in only two of the Heat’s last 10 contests, the latest ending with a sprained ankle. The 21-year-old told the Miami Herald the club’s faster tempo and less scripted offense have complicated his responsibilities, which now fluctuate between center and power forward. “It’s hard because you never get similar looks,” Jović said.

Hawks: Tough Finish Ahead

Atlanta rides a four-game winning streak—and six victories in its past seven—into one of the NBA’s most challenging closing stretches. At 45-33, the Hawks hold a two-game cushion over the Raptors and 76ers for fourth place in the East. Their final week features meetings with the Knicks, two games against the Cavaliers and a finale versus the Heat, a slate the Atlanta Journal-Constitution calls the league’s second-hardest remaining schedule.
