The Philadelphia 76ers will release rookie forward Igor Milicic Jr., creating an open spot on the team’s offseason roster, a club spokesperson confirmed to PHLY Sports’ Kyle Neubeck on September 27.
Milicic, a 6’10” forward, joined Philadelphia in July on an Exhibit 10 deal after going undrafted out of the University of Tennessee. As a senior with the Volunteers, he averaged 9.4 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists across 37 games. The Croatian-born player previously spent one season at Virginia and two seasons at Charlotte before transferring to Tennessee.
When he signed, the 22-year-old was considered a contender for a two-way contract. Following the waiver, he is expected to report to the Sixers’ G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, where he can earn a bonus of up to $85,300 if he stays at least 60 days.
Waiving Milicic reduces Philadelphia’s roster to 20 players, one below the offseason maximum. The vacant spot could be filled by Spanish forward Izan Almansa, whose anticipated agreement with the Sixers was first reported shortly after the June draft.
