The Philadelphia 76ers have reached an agreement to move second-year guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder, league sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Thursday.

Philadelphia will receive Houston’s 2026 first-round selection—currently controlled by the Thunder—along with three second-round choices, according to Kyle Neubeck of PHLY Sports. Those second-rounders are defined as:

  • The most favorable pick in 2027 among the Thunder, Rockets, Pacers and Heat
  • Oklahoma City’s own 2028 second-round pick
  • Milwaukee’s 2028 second-round pick

McCain’s recent production

McCain, who turns 22 later this month, was selected 16th overall in the 2024 draft. He averaged 15.3 points, 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds on 46.0% shooting in 23 games as a rookie with Philadelphia before a knee injury ended his 2024-25 season.

The Duke product missed the start of 2025-26 after thumb surgery and has posted 6.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 37 appearances this year, logging 16.8 minutes per game. He has spent multiple stints in the G League to regain form.

Cap implications

If no player heads back to Philadelphia, the Sixers will create a $4.22 million traded-player exception—equal to McCain’s 2025-26 salary.

Roster considerations

Philadelphia’s backcourt already features All-Star Tyrese Maxey and rookie standout VJ Edgecombe, making McCain expendable, especially because all three guards are similar in size.

Potential related move

Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported that Oklahoma City forward Ousmane Dieng could be rerouted to the Charlotte Hornets for veteran center Mason Plumlee, a trade that would reduce the Thunder’s payroll and help them avoid the luxury tax.

More details are expected as the transaction is finalized.
