The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to sign center Charles Bassey to a 10-day contract on Monday, according to multiple league sources. The deal will raise the club’s total to 15 standard contracts, restoring full roster capacity.
Adding Bassey allows Philadelphia to keep two-way players Dominick Barlow and Jabari Walker active. Both appeared in Saturday’s game against New York, pushing the team to the 90-game combined limit for two-way players when fewer than 15 standard contracts are in place.
Cap analyst Yossi Gozlan indicated that finalizing the agreement Monday would let Barlow and Walker remain available through February 4, the day before the trade deadline. Keith Smith of Spotrac noted the 10-day pact will cover the Sixers’ next six games.
Philadelphia is working to get Bassey to Charlotte ahead of Monday night’s matchup, but a widespread winter storm is complicating travel, reported Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Bassey, 25, is averaging 19 points and 11 rebounds with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League. After an impressive Summer League stint with Boston, he signed an Exhibit 10 deal with Atlanta in September, was waived before opening night, and later secured a 10-day hardship contract with Memphis in late October, appearing in two NBA games.
This marks Bassey’s second stint in Philadelphia. The Sixers selected him with the 53rd pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, and he logged 23 games as a rookie before being waived. He spent the past three seasons with San Antonio.
