PHILADELPHIA — November 23, 2025 — Center Joel Embiid missed his seventh consecutive game Sunday against the Miami Heat as he continues to experience soreness in his right knee, head coach Nick Nurse said.

“He wants to play. He’s being very diligent,” Nurse told reporters, adding that medical staff remain hopeful the seven-time All-Star will be cleared “soon.” Embiid has been out since Nov. 9.

Edgecombe held out as precaution

Rookie guard VJ Edgecombe was also unavailable Sunday. The No. 3 overall pick reported tightness in his left calf late in Thursday’s win at Milwaukee. Imaging showed no structural damage, but the club kept him out for precautionary reasons, Nurse said.

George comes off bench in second half

Paul George opened the game in the starting lineup but moved to the bench after halftime. Nurse explained that the switch was designed to keep the four-time All-Defensive forward matched up with Miami reserve Jaime Jaquez Jr., an early contender for Sixth Man of the Year honors. Sunday marked George’s third appearance since offseason knee surgery.

McCain’s breakout night

Second-year guard Jared McCain provided a lift for the short-handed Sixers, logging a season-high 26 minutes and finishing with 15 points. McCain had struggled early after missing time with knee and thumb injuries.

The undermanned 76ers fell to the Heat, extending their skid without Embiid.
