Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain said on September 2 that his rehabilitation from a lateral meniscus tear remains on schedule, and he anticipates taking part in the team’s fall training camp.
“My plan, for sure, is to participate in training camp,” the second-year guard told reporters while attending the unveiling of the franchise’s new arena naming rights. “Anything can happen, but for right now, I’m on pace and I’m doing great for that.”
McCain, the 16th overall pick in the 2024 draft, suffered the knee injury after just 23 games of his rookie season. He added that his workload is increasing: “I’m getting on court, doing a lot of live stuff, but I still have to talk to them about exactly if I’m free for everything. I’m definitely getting there.”
If cleared for camp, the 6’2″ guard is expected to be available when Philadelphia opens the regular season on October 22 against Boston. Before the injury, the Duke product averaged 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 0.7 steals while shooting 46.0% from the field, 38.3% from three and 87.5% at the foul line, finishing seventh in Rookie of the Year voting despite the shortened campaign.
