PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey will miss the team’s next two contests after being diagnosed with a sprain of the right fifth finger, according to The Athletic’s Tony Jones.
The 23-year-old will be re-evaluated following Philadelphia’s road game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday and the home matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday.
Maxey suffered the injury late in Saturday’s win over the Atlanta Hawks when he collided with teammate Adem Bona. Initial fears of more severe damage were alleviated after medical testing confirmed a sprain.
A two-time All-Star, Maxey is enjoying the best statistical season of his career. He enters the brief absence averaging 28.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 46% from the floor and 37.2% from beyond the arc. His 38.3 minutes per game lead the NBA.
Philadelphia is currently battling for the Eastern Conference’s sixth seed, which would secure a direct berth in the first round of the playoffs and avoid the play-in tournament.
