The Philadelphia 76ers will keep Quentin Grimes’ qualifying offer deadline at October 1, declining a request to move it to October 8, according to league sources cited by Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Grimes became a restricted free agent in June when Philadelphia tendered an $8.74 million qualifying offer. His agent, David Bauman, recently asked the club to extend the decision window by one week, a change that required agreement from both the player and the team. Multiple reports indicated the Sixers were unwilling to grant the extension, and Fischer confirmed the stance on Saturday.
The two sides remain apart on the terms of a new contract, Fischer added. Grimes is expected to re-sign on a one-year deal, but it is unclear whether he will accept the existing qualifying offer—which carries an implied no-trade clause—or agree to a higher one-year salary that would waive his right to veto a trade.
With the extension request denied, Grimes must choose a path by Wednesday, October 1.
