Herbert Jones Trade Odds Climb as Pelicans Stumble; Latest Buzz on Poole, Pacers, Warriors, Cavaliers and Heat

The New Orleans Pelicans, once adamant that forward Herbert Jones was untouchable, may revisit that position after beginning the season 3-20, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints. Although Jones cannot be dealt until January 14 because he signed an extension in July, league sources told Siegel that the likelihood of a move has “grown exponentially” in recent months.

Attention is also shifting to guard Jordan Poole. Acquired during the offseason, Poole struggled early and has been sidelined for the past month with a quad strain. The emergence of rookie Jeremiah Fears and the anticipated New Year return of Dejounte Murray could make Poole expendable. His contract—$31.8 million this season and $34 million in 2026—could limit trade value.

Pacers Weigh In-Season Options

Despite steady interest in T.J. McConnell, Aaron Nesmith and Andrew Nembhard, the Indiana Pacers are expected to keep their core intact, believing they can contend again in 2026-27 when Tyrese Haliburton returns from injury. If Indiana makes a move before the deadline, Bennedict Mathurin—on an expiring deal and headed for restricted free agency—remains the most likely candidate, Siegel reports.

Warriors’ Potential Pitch for Antetokounmpo

Should Giannis Antetokounmpo seek a trade, any Golden State offer is expected to revolve around Jimmy Butler rather than Draymond Green. Siegel notes that moving Green is not part of the Warriors’ plans because of his longstanding role with the franchise.

Rival Teams Monitor Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers’ 13-10 start has prompted other clubs to watch whether the team will entertain inquiries for starting center Jarrett Allen. Allen is earning $20 million this year, with a three-year, $90.7 million extension set to begin in July.

Heat Shift From Sellers to Buyers

Projected by many as possible sellers before the season, the 14-8 Miami Heat are now seen around the league as buyers. Forward Andrew Wiggins is viewed as unlikely to move unless Miami can secure a clear roster upgrade.
