The post-trade-deadline period has arrived, and several franchises are reshaping the back end of their rosters for the stretch run. According to league records, seven NBA teams currently carry just two players on two-way deals, leaving one spot open as the March 4 cutoff for new two-way signings approaches.

Teams with a vacant two-way position

The clubs still holding an opening are:

  • Atlanta Hawks
  • Boston Celtics
  • Milwaukee Bucks
  • Minnesota Timberwolves
  • New Orleans Pelicans
  • Portland Trail Blazers
  • Sacramento Kings

Two-way contracts do not count against the salary cap, so there is no financial barrier to filling all three allotted slots. League observers expect each of the seven teams to add a player in the coming days.

Key dates and recent movement

The NBA permits teams to sign players to two-way contracts until March 4. Conversions of two-way deals to standard NBA contracts can occur up to April 12, the final day of the regular season.

Sixteen players on two-way agreements have already been promoted to standard deals in recent weeks. Not every organization has chosen that route; the Timberwolves waived Johnny Juzang after he hit the 50-game active limit, and the Thunder released Chris Youngblood earlier this season under similar circumstances.

Because two-way players can move freely between the NBA and the G League while remaining under team control, the final wave of signings is expected to focus on prospects who can provide immediate depth while maintaining long-term upside.
