Scout Projects Luka Dončić to Claim Both MVP and Scoring Title for Lakers Next Season

An NBA talent evaluator believes Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Dončić is on track to secure the league’s Most Valuable Player award and repeat as scoring champion in the 2025-26 season.

Speaking with DallasHoopsJournal.com, the scout said Dončić “looks incredible” after shedding weight during the offseason. “He’s quicker and more explosive. … I think he’s gonna win MVP and the scoring title next season. He wants to get revenge on Dallas for basically fat-shaming him,” the scout added.

Reworked Physique

According to Men’s Health, the five-time All-Star adopted a gluten-free, low-sugar diet and an intermittent-fasting regimen aimed at reducing inflammation and speeding recovery. Dončić already claimed the 2024 scoring crown with the Dallas Mavericks by averaging 33.9 points per game despite playing at a heavier weight.

Trade Shock and Strong Finish

The Mavericks stunned the league last February by sending Dončić to Los Angeles in exchange for Anthony Davis and Max Christie. The Slovenian star, reportedly devastated by the move, went on to appear in 28 regular-season games with the Lakers, posting 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists a night.

Los Angeles reached the playoffs and met the Minnesota Timberwolves in the opening round. Despite being favored, the Lakers dropped the series in five games, with Dončić averaging 30.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists.

New Contract and Recruiting Efforts

On August 2, the Lakers signed Dončić, 26, to a three-year, $165 million extension. He subsequently helped lure free agents Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart to the roster.

Career Marks and Championship Pursuit

Dončić carries career averages of 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists between his time with Dallas and Los Angeles, ranking third all-time in points per game. While the Lakers own 17 NBA championships, the former Maverick is still seeking his first ring after falling to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 Finals.

The scout’s prediction adds another layer of intrigue to Dončić’s first full season in purple and gold.
