Sasser’s 16 Points Help Pistons Extend Win Streak to Three

DETROIT — Rookie guard Marcus Sasser delivered his best scoring night since Jan. 1, putting up 16 points in the Pistons’ 126-110 win over the Grizzlies on Friday. The outing came in his second straight start while Ausar Thompson recovers from a right ankle sprain.

“He’s always ready when his number is called,” head coach J.B. Bickerstaff said postgame. “He’s a dogged defender, another ballhandler, a playmaker, and he spaces the floor.”

Sasser, 23, is signed through next season. Detroit exercised its $5,198,983 team option for 2026-27 in October.

Three in a Row

Friday’s victory capped a perfect week for Detroit, which also beat the Nets and an injury-depleted 76ers squad to rebound from a season-worst four-game slide. “Coach told us to stay together,” reserve wing Ron Holland said. “We’re back on track now, so hopefully we can stay rolling.”

Holland’s Impact Beyond the Arc

Holland continues to struggle from long range — 15.8% on three-point attempts this month — yet he is averaging 14.3 points during the streak. Bickerstaff praised the rookie’s work ethic and ability to inject energy when the team needs a lift.

Huerter Settling In

Trade-deadline addition Kevin Huerter is averaging 21 minutes over the past six games. The veteran guard reached double figures in his last two appearances, scoring 12 against Philadelphia and 11 versus Memphis. Huerter will enter unrestricted free agency this summer.
