The Boston Celtics continue to encourage trade inquiries for guard Anfernee Simons, according to reporting from Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Boston obtained the 26-year-old scorer from the Portland Trail Blazers in the deal that sent Jrue Holiday west earlier this offseason. Simons is entering the final year of his contract and is owed $27.7 million in 2024-25.
Fischer noted that the organization is expected to keep Simons in trade conversations through the 2025 trade deadline, set for February 5 at 3 p.m. ET.
Production in Portland
Simons averaged 19.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.8 assists across 70 games for Portland last season, shooting 42.6 percent from the field, 36.3 percent from three and 90.2 percent at the free-throw line. His career numbers stand at 15.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
Busy Offseason in Boston
Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens reshaped the roster after Boston’s second-round playoff exit to the New York Knicks. In addition to the Holiday-for-Simons swap, Stevens moved Kristaps Porziņģis to the Atlanta Hawks for Georges Niang, then sent Niang to the Utah Jazz for RJ Luis Jr. The club also signed Chris Boucher, Luka Garza and Josh Minott.
Head coach Joe Mazzulla, who owns a 182-64 regular-season record and a 33-17 postseason mark, received a multi-year contract extension. The Celtics are preparing for the 2024-25 campaign without Jayson Tatum, who is expected to miss the season after tearing his right Achilles tendon in Game 4 against New York.
