Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant will sit out the team’s next two contests as he steps away to attend to a family issue, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The 37-year-old will be unavailable for Monday’s road matchup against the Phoenix Suns and Wednesday’s visit to the Golden State Warriors.

Durant has exceeded expectations during his first season with Houston, averaging 24.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists across 14 appearances. He is shooting 48.5 percent from the field while logging more than 36 minutes per game.

Beyond his on-court production, the veteran has become a more vocal presence on a roster loaded with young talent. “I feel comfortable speaking up because I’ve been through every situation,” Durant said recently.

Second-year guard Reed Sheppard, currently playing his best stretch of the season, has drawn particular praise from the former MVP. “Knowing he believes in me is really special,” Sheppard remarked.

Durant’s absence will further test Houston’s depth at forward. Dorian Finney-Smith (ankle surgery) and Tari Eason (oblique) remain sidelined, leaving Jae’Sean Tate—assuming he is recalled from the G League—and Jeff Green as the primary options to fill the void.
