Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant said he can feel the “end” of his playing days approaching, though he emphasized that he is still focused on the present. The 35-year-old veteran discussed his future during an appearance on The Boardroom podcast, released this week.
“There’s going to come a time where it’s not my place, and we’re creeping closer to that,” Durant said. “To know there’s only a handful of years left, you’ve got to start preparing for that next phase.”
Durant entered the NBA in 2007 and has built a reputation as one of the league’s most prolific scorers. While he continues to lead Houston’s offense, he acknowledged that replacing the day-to-day rhythm of an NBA career will be difficult.
“I’ve accepted that I’ll never be able to fill that space,” he noted. “It’s the small things—the camaraderie, the brotherhood, the people I’ve met, the fans around the world. That’s the coolest part. I can still hoop, still be in the gym and have that routine when I’m done playing.”
Durant remains a key contributor for the Rockets, who rely on his scoring and experience as they navigate the current season. Despite recognizing that the “clock is ticking,” he made it clear that he still feels “very much in control of the moment.”
