Agent Rich Paul shut down speculation that LeBron James and Stephen Curry might one day share an NBA roster, telling listeners on Thursday that such a scenario “is not going to happen.”
During a discussion initiated by Max Kellerman, Paul brushed off the idea with sarcasm. “Why don’t we just play Duck, Duck, Goose?” he said, questioning why the topic continues to surface when, in his view, it has no chance of becoming reality.
James and Curry have only appeared on the same side in limited settings, most recently with Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics and in various NBA All-Star Games. They have never been teammates during the regular season.
The Golden State Warriors have reportedly checked on James’s availability more than once, including before the 2024 trade deadline, but those talks never progressed. Paul reiterated that the four-time MVP intends to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers, a position underscored when James exercised his player option for the 2025-26 season, which includes a no-trade clause.
Los Angeles is increasingly building around Luka Doncic as its long-term cornerstone, with James now serving as a high-level co-star. Entering his age-41 season, James is averaging 20.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists through 15 games, while the Lakers sit at 20-11.
For all the chatter, Paul’s message was unequivocal: a James-Curry partnership remains a talking-point only, not an impending NBA development.
