Charlotte-Mecklenburg police permitted Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball to leave the site of a car accident that occurred Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Trade and Tryon streets in downtown Charlotte, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Officials have not released an incident report. MEDIC confirmed one individual received treatment for injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Video obtained by WSOC shows Ball departing the scene in a vehicle driven by teammate Brandon Miller, while a member of the team’s security staff stood nearby. A team source told the Observer that officers gave Ball explicit permission to leave.
Speaking briefly afterward, Ball said, “Everyone involved was cool… It’s just blessings. God is great.”
Context for the Hornets
The crash comes 10 days after teammates Miles Bridges and Moussa Diabaté served suspensions for an on-court fight, adding to off-court distractions for a club sitting 10th in the Eastern Conference standings.
Head coach Charles Lee addressed the situation Thursday. “There’s always going to be distractions—in life, in basketball,” Lee said. “A big part of who we want to be is how we respond when we’re faced with adversity.”
Ball played that night against Houston, finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in a loss.
