The Los Angeles Lakers are evaluating Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga as a possible addition, with president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka believing the 23-year-old would complement Luka Doncic, according to NBC Sports Bay Area.

League sources told the outlet that Pelinka’s interest dates back to last summer, when Kuminga entered restricted free agency and a qualifying-offer route to unrestricted free agency in 2026 became a consideration. Pelinka is said to admire the forward’s athleticism and sees value in adding a physical wing next to the Lakers’ new franchise centerpiece.

Golden State is aware of Los Angeles’ attention, though executives around the NBA remain doubtful the Pacific Division rivals will negotiate an in-season trade. The Warriors currently have Kuminga out of their primary rotation.

Current Production and Contract

Kuminga has appeared in 18 games this season, averaging 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting just over 43 percent from the field. Those numbers trail the expectations set during his role in Golden State’s 2022 championship run.

He re-signed with the Warriors on a two-year, $48.5 million deal in restricted free agency; the second year is a team option, a clause that has intensified trade speculation.

Additional Interest and Standings

The report notes that the Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings have also checked on Kuminga’s availability. For his career, the forward averages 12.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

Los Angeles enters the week fifth in the Western Conference, while Golden State sits eighth. The Lakers acquired Doncic last season, and the Warriors brought in Jimmy Butler from Miami, leaving both franchises unafraid of high-profile moves.

Whether another blockbuster emerges between the two California teams remains uncertain, but Pelinka’s ongoing interest keeps Kuminga’s name firmly on the radar.
