The Los Angeles Lakers are prepared to make a deal for a player whose contract runs beyond the 2025-26 season, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported.

Los Angeles enters training camp with 14 guaranteed contracts. Rui Hachimura ($18.3 million), Gabe Vincent ($11.5 million) and Maxi Kleber ($11 million) are all on expiring agreements.

According to the report, the front office is open to including a future first-round selection—either its 2031 or 2032 pick—to complete a trade that adds long-term salary.

“Luka’s play in EuroBasket made it clear he’s on that incredibly short list of best player on the planet candidates,” team president Rob Pelinka said. “Having both Luka and LeBron allows us to think carefully about the value of that optionality.”

The projected starting lineup features Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, Hachimura, LeBron James and offseason addition Deandre Ayton. The Lakers also added Marcus Smart and Jake LaRavia after last season’s first-round exit to Minnesota.

Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins is among the players on Los Angeles’ radar, per McMenamin. Wiggins is owed $28.2 million in 2024-25 and has a $30.2 million player option for 2026-27.
