Guard Zach LaVine “would absolutely love to move on from Sacramento” ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline, according to James Ham of the podcast Locked On Kings. Ham said the All-Star’s maximum-salary contract remains a primary hurdle to any deal.
Ham noted that an early concept involving the Milwaukee Bucks—built around Kyle Kuzma and Bobby Portis—lost steam after Milwaukee’s recent slump and Giannis Antetokounmpo’s latest calf strain.
The Toronto Raptors are still viewed as a potential trade partner for Sacramento. Ham reported that Toronto could explore a push for center Domantas Sabonis, but a Kings source told him the team has “no appetite” for acquiring Raptors center Jakob Poeltl. The same source did not dismiss interest in Raptors wing RJ Barrett, a player Kings general manager Scott Perry helped draft while with the New York Knicks.
Meanwhile, Kings guard Keon Ellis has generated leaguewide chatter, yet Ham said Toronto and Sacramento “have not talked about Ellis” at this point.
