Miami’s Attempts to Trade Terry Rozier Reportedly Going Nowhere

The Miami Heat have been actively seeking a trade that would send point guard Terry Rozier elsewhere, but league interest appears minimal, according to reporting from Ethan Skolnick of SI.com and the “Five On The Floor” podcast.

Skolnick said the Heat have been “shopping” the final season of Rozier’s contract, an expiring deal worth between $24 million and $26 million depending on incentives, in hopes of landing front-court help. To date, no team has been willing to engage.

Executives cited by Skolnick pointed to Rozier’s sharp statistical decline — including what they viewed as excessive dribbling that often led to difficult shots — as a primary deterrent. The 31-year-old averaged 10.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists over 64 games last season, his lowest production since he was a reserve with the Boston Celtics in 2018-19.

Complicating matters, Rozier’s name surfaced in a fantasy sports and gambling probe connected to his previous stint with the Charlotte Hornets. The NBA cleared him of wrongdoing, but the FBI has opened its own investigation. A league source told Five Reasons Sports that, until that inquiry concludes, Rozier is viewed as a “toxic” asset on the trade market.

With no deal in sight, Miami has recently auditioned veteran free agents in search of depth up front, working out center Kai Jones and big man Trey Lyles, among others.
