Hawks’ Trae Young Unlikely to Discuss New Deal This Offseason

Atlanta, GA — Star guard Trae Young is preparing to enter next season without a new contract in place, league sources told Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Fischer reported that the Atlanta Hawks have no plans to open extension talks with Young this summer. People familiar with the situation said Young’s representatives have long anticipated playing out the final guaranteed year of his current agreement rather than securing another deal valued at more than $200 million.
Young, 25, is under contract through the 2025-26 season and holds a $49 million player option for 2026-27. Deciding whether to exercise that option could become his next major choice if no extension materializes before then.
The Hawks reshaped their roster in recent months by bringing in forward Kristaps Porziņģis via trade and adding guards Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard on smaller deals. Second-year forward Zaccharie Risacher has logged significant minutes, and forward Jalen Johnson is expected back soon from injury.
Atlanta’s performance with its revamped lineup may influence how the organization handles Young’s contract situation going forward.
