Few Teams Showing Serious Interest in Mavericks’ Anthony Davis Trade

Trade chatter around Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis is quieter than expected, league sources told ESPN’s Tim Bontemps.

Bontemps reported that front offices are hesitant to assume the 33-year-old’s sizable contract, which pays $54.1 million this season, $58.5 million in 2024-25 and includes a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28.

“You talk to people in the league, there’s not a lot of teams that are lining up to take on a 35-year-old Anthony Davis making $63 million, and you have to assume he’s going to opt into that deal,” Bontemps said.

Availability a Concern

Dallas acquired Davis last season in the blockbuster that sent Luka Dončić to New Orleans. Since arriving, the 10-time All-Star has appeared in only 14 games, averaging 20.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.9 blocks. He has played just five contests this season and is currently sidelined by a left calf strain.

Open to Mid-Season Talks

The Mavericks are expected to work with agent Rich Paul to explore in-season trade options, though Davis does not possess a no-trade clause. Clubs that have expressed preliminary interest reportedly want the veteran to trim weight in hopes of recapturing the mobility that once made him an elite two-way presence.

Over 12 NBA seasons with the Pelicans, Lakers and Mavericks, Davis owns career averages of 24.1 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks.
