Milwaukee, WI — The Milwaukee Bucks weighed a substantial proposal from the Miami Heat for Giannis Antetokounmpo before the trade deadline but ultimately chose to keep the two-time MVP, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.

Miami’s offer, according to the report, centered on guard Tyler Herro, rookie center Kelel Ware and a package of future draft picks and swaps. Bucks ownership notified the Heat on Feb. 5 that Antetokounmpo was unavailable, convinced a more favorable deal could surface during the offseason.

Summer move viewed as likely

Charania indicated Milwaukee’s leadership now accepts that a trade may be unavoidable after a season expected to end in the draft lottery. One source described internal dynamics as “as toxic of a team situation as any in the league.”

Antetokounmpo has not submitted a formal trade request, but he and agent Alex Saratsis signaled earlier in the year that parting ways might benefit both sides. The forward met with co-owners Jimmy Haslam and Wes Edens ahead of the deadline to explore an amicable solution.

“When your best player is one foot in, one foot out, you’re not going to win,” a team source told ESPN.

Other suitors checked in

Before the deadline, several teams—including the Heat, Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves—contacted Milwaukee about the 29-year-old star. While no deal materialized, league executives expect discussions to restart once the offseason opens.

The Bucks’ decision to stand pat appears to have postponed, not resolved, the question of Antetokounmpo’s future with the franchise.
