Jaime Echenique, a 6’11” center from Barranquilla, Colombia, has agreed to a one-season contract with Reggio Emilia in Italy, according to a report published August 17 2025 by Dario Skerletic of Sportando.
Echenique made NBA history during the 2021/22 campaign when he appeared in one game for the Washington Wizards, becoming the first—and so far only—player born in Colombia to play in the league. The following year, he suited up for the Mexico City Capitanes in the NBA G League, averaging 13.3 points and 7.4 rebounds across 21.2 minutes in 13 games.
The 27-year-old has spent the past two seasons in Europe. He joined Promitheas in Greece for 2023/24 before moving to Turkey’s Petkim Spor last season, where he posted 10.8 points and 4.7 rebounds while logging 18.2 minutes per game as a part-time starter.
Reggio Emilia head coach Dimitris Priftis welcomed the new arrival, calling Echenique “an important player” who can bolster the club’s interior play. “Echenique has great skills around the rim and is very experienced, having played in multiple European leagues,” Priftis said. “I believe he can help us develop the style of play we envision and achieve the goals we have set.”
