The Toronto Raptors have signed 27-year-old guard Tyreke Key, the team announced on Thursday.
Key has spent the last two seasons with Raptors 905, Toronto’s NBA G League affiliate. After receiving an Exhibit 10 deal in September, he was waived the same day and returned to the G League, where he emerged as a steady scorer. Over 33 regular-season games this year, including 14 starts, the guard averaged 16.6 points while shooting 52.1% from the field and 42.1% from beyond the arc.
The Tennessee product went undrafted in 2023 following four collegiate seasons at Indiana State and a graduate year with the Volunteers. Before joining Raptors 905, he played professionally in Belgium.
Toronto had an open roster spot after Markelle Fultz’s 10-day contract expired last week, eliminating the need for a corresponding move to bring in Key. The Raptors opted not to offer Fultz a second 10-day deal.
According to Blake Murphy of SportsNet, the organization often rewards strong G League performers with NBA opportunities. Murphy added that one of the club’s two-way players, either Alijah Martin or A.J. Lawson, could take Key’s place on a two-way contract before season’s end to ensure playoff eligibility.
