MINNEAPOLIS — After weeks of trade speculation and frustration over an All-Star snub, Julius Randle has rediscovered his form and energized the Timberwolves’ playoff drive.

Head coach Chris Finch said the veteran forward “was kind of not himself recently,” adding, “He’s so important for us in so many ways. We just need him to come back to the pack, if you will.”

The turnaround began Monday against Atlanta, when Randle logged an 18-point, 12-rebound, 10-assist triple-double. Two nights later, he delivered what teammates called his best outing of the season, pouring in 41 points — 23 in the fourth quarter — along with seven rebounds and engaged defense in a win over Portland.

“It gets everybody going,” center Naz Reid said. “He plays fast, plays strong, spaces the floor, he gets everybody else involved.”

DiVincenzo Expected to Stay in Starting Five

Despite guard Ayo Dosunmu’s quick connection with fans, Donte DiVincenzo is projected to remain in the opening lineup, according to The Athletic. Although not a traditional point guard, DiVincenzo has supplied steady energy and owns strong on/off numbers for a first unit rated among the league’s best.

Dosunmu Boosts McDaniels in Transition

Dosunmu’s up-tempo style has created easier transition looks for forward Jaden McDaniels. Finch wants McDaniels taking at least 10 shots per game, a threshold Dosunmu’s pace could help reach. “Some plays, he’s outrunning all of us,” McDaniels said. “He’s helping us run, he’s helping us get better. I just like the energy he brings and the effort.”

Heightened Expectations

The Star Tribune reports a collective pressure surrounding the club that was absent in previous seasons, raising questions about how deep a postseason run will be required to ease that weight.
