Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley has outlined a hypothetical trade that would move forward Zion Williamson from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Brooklyn Nets.
Under the scenario, Brooklyn would acquire the two-time All-Star while New Orleans would receive Michael Porter Jr., rookie guard Ben Saraf and a 2027 first-round pick. The proposed exchange is financially feasible; Williamson is owed $42.2 million for the 2024-25 season, and his salary becomes fully guaranteed on July 15. The contract does not include a no-trade clause, leaving New Orleans free to move him if it chooses.
Production has never been the issue for Williamson. The 23-year-old is averaging 21.3 points on 60.4 percent shooting this season and holds a career mark of 23.9 points per game. Availability remains the primary concern, as injuries have limited him to 184 games since he entered the league in 2019.
For Brooklyn, the move would provide an immediate marquee presence—something the club has sought since trading away Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in 2023. Williamson’s highlight-reel play could reinvigorate Barclays Center and give the Nets a clear focal point.
New Orleans, meanwhile, would gain a proven scorer in Porter, plus a young combo guard in Saraf and an additional future pick. The deal could allow the Pelicans to reorient their core around forwards Trey Murphy III and rookie center Derik Queen while addressing durability concerns that have trailed Williamson throughout his tenure.
The proposal remains strictly theoretical; neither franchise has commented publicly on the idea.
