The final day of group play for Groups A and B at EuroBasket 2025 ended Wednesday, September 3, with Portugal and Sweden grabbing the two remaining knockout-round spots.
Portugal edged Estonia 68-65 in a win-or-go-home matchup to secure fourth place in Group A. Point guard Rafael Lisboa led the way with 17 points and five assists, while Boston Celtics center Neemias Queta added 15 points before being ejected with 4:34 left in the third quarter after his second technical foul. Portugal briefly surrendered its lead following Queta’s departure but reclaimed control during a back-and-forth fourth period to advance.
In Group B, Sweden moved on despite falling 74-71 to Lithuania. Sweden, Montenegro, and Great Britain all finished at 1-4, but Sweden advanced on point differential after Montenegro lost to Great Britain earlier in the day. Miami Heat forward Pelle Larsson has paced the Swedish squad so far, averaging 19.8 points across four games.
Round-of-16 Pairings (Saturday, September 6)
Turkey (A1) vs. Sweden (B4)
Serbia (A2) vs. Finland (B3)
Latvia (A3) vs. Lithuania (B2)
Portugal (A4) vs. Germany (B1)
FIBA has set tip-off times for all four contests.
Group play wraps up Thursday for Groups C and D. Two berths remain open in Group C, where Greece (3-1) and Italy (3-1) have already qualified. Spain (2-2) advances with a win over Greece, while the winner of Georgia (2-2) vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina (2-2) will also move on. If Greece beats Spain, the Spaniards would need a Georgia victory to survive, as Spain owns the head-to-head edge over Bosnia and Herzegovina but trails Georgia on tiebreakers.
All four qualifiers from Group D are set—Israel, Poland, France, and Slovenia—but their seeding remains undecided ahead of Thursday’s Israel-Slovenia matchup.
