Former NBA forward Lamar Odom faces multiple traffic charges after a late-night freeway stop in Las Vegas, according to court documents reviewed by Hoops Wire.
The paperwork states that a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper spotted a Dodge Durango traveling about 90 mph on Interstate 15 around 2 a.m. on Jan. 17. When the officer attempted to catch up, the SUV allegedly accelerated, forcing the trooper to exceed 100 mph and call for backup while activating patrol lights and siren.
Despite the signals, the driver reportedly continued speeding, changed lanes without signaling, then flashed turn signals in both directions without moving before finally pulling over near Spring Mountain Road.
The driver was identified as Odom, 44, who was accompanied by an unidentified passenger, the report says. The trooper noted bloodshot, watery eyes and a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Odom allegedly told the officer he had been talking with his manager on the phone and was almost home, which is why he was driving fast.
After field sobriety tests that investigators said he failed, Odom was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center at approximately 3 a.m. He was cited for driving under the influence, exceeding the speed limit by more than 40 mph, and unsafe lane changes.
Court records show a hearing scheduled for March 17.
