Several Eastern Conference front offices are preparing trade pitches in case the Dallas Mavericks place All-NBA forward Anthony Davis on the market before February’s deadline, league sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks are viewed as the early franchises ready to engage Dallas should the club entertain offers, according to the report. Rival executives believe Davis is the kind of player who could immediately shift the balance of power in the East, making any acquiring team a legitimate favorite.

The Mavericks have publicly indicated they want to see their roster at full strength before committing to major changes. Nonetheless, opposing teams sense Dallas could listen on veteran pieces, with Davis considered the most significant name.

Dallas has not ruled out negotiating a new deal with the 31-year-old big man. Davis becomes eligible this summer for a four-year extension worth up to $275 million.

The organization is also weighing its options on Klay Thompson, Daniel Gafford and D’Angelo Russell, each of whom could be included in trades if the right return is offered.
