The Detroit Pistons have picked up their rookie-scale team options for the 2026-27 season on three young players: Ausar Thompson, Ron Holland and Marcus Sasser, according to entries in the NBA’s official transaction log.
The moves were completed last week but were not publicly announced by the club. Teams had until Oct. 31 to finalize option decisions.
Thompson, the No. 5 pick in the 2023 draft, will earn $11,117,925 in his fourth season. The 6-7 wing has opened 2025-26 as one of Detroit’s key contributors, averaging 14.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists through four games, highlighted by a 21-point, 12-rebound performance in Sunday’s win over Boston.
Holland, selected fifth overall in 2024, will receive $9,069,600 in his third season. After appearing in 81 games as a rookie, the forward is averaging 12.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.8 steals in 21.3 minutes across four games this year.
Sasser, drafted 25th in 2023, is owed $5,198,983 for his fourth year. The 25-year-old guard played in 57 contests last season, posting 6.6 points and 2.3 assists per game on 46.3 percent shooting. He has yet to appear this season because of a right hip impingement.
All three contracts are now guaranteed through 2026-27. Thompson and Sasser will be eligible for rookie-scale extensions in the 2026 offseason. The Pistons must decide on Holland’s $11.49 million fourth-year option for 2027-28 by this time next year.
