The Detroit Pistons are putting the finishing touches on a one-year contract with free-agent wing Javonte Green, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The agreement is expected to be for the veteran minimum, though financial terms and guarantee details were not disclosed.
Veteran adds depth on the perimeter
Green, 32, entered the NBA in 2019 after four seasons overseas and has since logged 263 regular-season games with the Celtics, Bulls, Pelicans and Cavaliers. He owns career averages of 5.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in 16.8 minutes per contest, carving out a role primarily through his defensive versatility.
2024-25 season split between Pelicans and Cavaliers
Last year the Radford product appeared in 68 games, including 18 starts, for New Orleans and Cleveland. He posted 5.1 points and 3.2 rebounds across 18.5 minutes per game while shooting 42.9 percent from the field, 32.6 percent from beyond the arc and 72.4 percent at the free-throw line. Green joined the Cavaliers after a buyout from the injury-hit Pelicans.
Roster outlook in Detroit
Detroit currently has 13 players on standard contracts. Even if Green’s deal lacks full guarantees, the roster makeup gives him a clear path to one of the 15 regular-season spots when training camp opens this fall.
