Detroit — The Pistons will be without Isaiah Stewart for an undetermined stretch after the forward/center suffered a left calf strain, according to Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press.

“It’s something he’s been dealing with and it had been getting worse,” coach J.B. Bickerstaff said. “He gutted it out last game and you could see he was favoring it late. It’s something we’re going to take time with.”

Stewart, a fixture in Detroit’s rotation, is averaging 10.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks while logging 23.1 minutes per contest. The injury likely prevents him from reaching the NBA’s 65-game threshold required for postseason awards, interrupting what had been a strong defensive season.

The 22-year-old had appeared in seven games since returning from a suspension related to a Feb. 9 altercation with the Hornets. His absence should free up additional minutes for reserve center Paul Reed, who is posting 13.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists across eight starts this year.
