DETROIT — The Detroit Pistons have signed undrafted guard Jaden Akins to an Exhibit 10 contract, Keith Smith of Spotrac reported on Oct. 10.
Akins spent four seasons at Michigan State, finishing his college career with averages of 12.8 points and 3.5 rebounds as a senior while shooting 29.3 percent from three-point range that year. Over his full collegiate tenure, he connected on 35.2 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc. His final season earned him spots on both the All-Big Ten team and the conference’s All-Defensive squad.
The 6-foot-4, 22-year-old guard appeared in four Summer League contests for the Orlando Magic this offseason, posting 5.8 points and 1.75 steals in 13.9 minutes per game.
An Exhibit 10 clause gives Akins the opportunity to collect a bonus of up to $85,300 if Detroit waives him and he then spends at least 60 days with the club’s G League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise.
