DETROIT — Cade Cunningham continues to dominate closing moments, racking up an NBA-leading 86 fourth-quarter points during the Pistons’ 6-2 opening run.
The No. 1 overall pick in 2021 poured in 19 points in the final period for a second straight game, sealing Wednesday’s 114-103 victory over the Jazz. “We’re just now turning the corner as far as just not being losers,” Cunningham said, according to The Athletic. “We were losers for a little stint in the NBA. But we all have winning habits, winning mentalities.”
Coach J.B. Bickerstaff praised his star guard. “He’s phenomenal,” the Pistons coach said. “Everything you want in a No. 1 guy, Cade is it.”
Magic
After starting 3-5, Orlando will play seven of its next nine contests in Florida. “We’ve just got to play some better basketball,” guard Jalen Suggs told the Orlando Sentinel. “Find our groove, find our swag.”
Heat
A two-alarm fire broke out early Thursday at Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra’s Miami-Dade residence. Firefighters were dispatched roughly 25 minutes before the team plane landed from Denver at 5 a.m. ET. The property, which sits on a 43,000-square-foot lot and sold for $6.6 million in 2023, sustained damage, but no injuries were reported. Crews battled the blaze for more than four hours.
On the court, center Bam Adebayo exited Wednesday’s loss to the Nuggets with a left foot injury and is scheduled for an MRI today. “We’ll figure it out,” Adebayo said, per the Miami Herald.
