The Detroit Pistons have ruled out center Isaiah Stewart for an undetermined length of time after he aggravated a left calf strain, the team confirmed.
“It’s something he’s been dealing with. It just had been getting worse,” head coach J.B. Bickerstaff told reporters. “He gutted it out last game and I think you could see he was favoring it late. It’s something we’re going to take time with.”
Stewart, 6-foot-8, has been a key piece of Detroit’s rotation this season, averaging 10.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks across 23.1 minutes per game while mounting a case for an All-Defensive Team nod.
The third-year big man had appeared in seven contests since returning from a seven-game suspension stemming from a Feb. 9 altercation with the Charlotte Hornets.
With Stewart sidelined, reserve center Paul Reed is expected to see increased playing time. Reed has produced 13.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists in eight starts this season.
