Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham has been diagnosed with a collapsed lung and will be out of the lineup for an unspecified period, the team confirmed.
The Pistons did not provide a timetable for Cunningham’s return, stating only that the 22-year-old will remain sidelined until further evaluation determines when he can safely resume basketball activities.
Cunningham, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, is averaging 22.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists this season. He last appeared in a game earlier this week before reporting discomfort that led to additional medical testing.
Detroit is 2-8 over its past 10 games and sits at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings heading into its next matchup. Cunningham’s absence leaves the Pistons without their leading scorer and primary playmaker.
