The New Orleans Pelicans have begun entertaining trade inquiries for wings Trey Murphy III and Herb Jones and are also willing to discuss All-Star forward Zion Williamson, according to a report from Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.
League executives told Fischer that New Orleans, once expected to push for the postseason, is instead considering a roster reset built around young guards Jeremiah Fears and Derik Queen. As a result, the front office has quietly signaled an openness to proposals for several of its most prominent players.
Murphy and Jones draw significant interest
Murphy and Jones are viewed as two of the most appealing two-way wings currently available. Jones agreed to a three-year, $68 million extension in July, while Murphy signed a four-year, $112 million deal in October. Both contracts carry an average annual value below $30 million, a number executives see as a critical threshold under the league’s present salary landscape.
Fischer noted that New Orleans is expected to demand multiple first-round picks in any trade involving Murphy or Jones.
Williamson’s market complicated by injuries
Williamson, under contract through 2028, has had his trade value dampened by ongoing health issues. Some teams have privately rated his value as negative despite incentives that could void portions of his current deal. Even so, the Pelicans are said to be listening to offers for the 23-year-old forward.
The team has not publicly commented on the report, and no timetable for potential moves was provided.
