The New Orleans Pelicans placed guard/forward Dalen Terry on waivers Friday, less than 24 hours after acquiring him in a multi-team series of deals.

Terry, 23, arrived in New Orleans on Thursday along with two second-round draft picks in the trade that sent Jose Alvarado to the New York Knicks. New York had obtained Terry earlier that day from the Chicago Bulls.

Selected 18th overall in the 2022 draft after two seasons at Arizona, the 6’6” wing never carved out a steady role in Chicago. He has appeared in 34 games this season, averaging 3.5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists across 11.1 minutes per night.

If Terry clears waivers—as expected—the Pelicans will absorb a $5,399,118 dead-money cap hit and open a spot on the 15-man roster. According to The Athletic’s Will Guillory, the team intends to convert two-way guard Bryce McGowens to a standard NBA contract.

Terry will be eligible to sign a two-way deal elsewhere once he becomes a free agent.
