The New Orleans Pelicans are continuing to reject trade inquiries centered on Trey Murphy III and Herbert Jones, according to reporting by Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. Multiple teams have approached the club about the two starters, but the answer remains a firm “no.”
In the same conversations, league executives are getting a different response on two other players. New Orleans is described as far more willing to discuss deals involving Yves Missi and Jordan Hawkins.
Missi’s role has diminished significantly this season. After opening in the first unit 67 times as a rookie, the center has started only seven games in the current campaign and is averaging 18.2 minutes per night while sitting behind rookie Derik Queen in the front-court rotation. The shift has drawn interest across the league; Fischer notes that the Indiana Pacers are among the clubs that have checked on Missi’s availability.
Hawkins is viewed as a tougher asset to move. The former lottery pick is enduring the worst statistical year of his career, putting up 4.4 points per game and converting just 30.3 percent of his three-point attempts, limiting his current trade value.
Despite speculation that New Orleans might be posturing, Fischer reports the franchise’s stance on Murphy and Jones appears genuine. The Pelicans are intent on protecting their core while remaining open to other possibilities.
