The Phoenix Suns announced on August 18, 2025, that Paul Jesperson will lead their NBA G League affiliate, the Valley Suns, as head coach.
“Paul is ready to take this next step in his career as he moves into the role of head coach,” Valley Suns general manager Brendan Sabean said in the team’s statement. “His background and experience complement our vision to utilize the G League as a lifeline of development for Suns and Valley Suns players. He’s a natural fit for the job and I’m looking forward to seeing the impact he can make as head coach.”
Jesperson spent last season as an assistant with the Valley Suns, making the new post an internal promotion. However, the move follows a brief stint with another organization. In May, multiple reports indicated the Sacramento Kings had reached an agreement with him to become their head of player development, and Sacramento later confirmed the hire when announcing Doug Christie’s staff. Earlier this month, reporting revealed that D.J. Ham accepted the same role after Jesperson stepped away.
By returning to Phoenix’s affiliate, Jesperson replaces former Valley Suns head coach John Little, who joined new Suns head coach Jordan Ott’s staff as an assistant.
A former guard at Virginia and Northern Iowa, Jesperson played professionally in the G League and in Europe before transitioning to coaching. His résumé includes stops with the Atlanta Hawks and the Oklahoma Sooners prior to joining the Valley Suns as an assistant last season.
