The Indiana Pacers have re-signed center James Wiseman to a 10-day contract under the NBA’s hardship exception, the team announced Friday. To create roster space, Indiana terminated forward Gabe McGlothan’s 10-day deal after four days.
Wiseman, 22, is expected to be available Saturday when the Pacers visit the New Orleans Pelicans.
Return after early-season release
This is the latest twist in a turbulent year for the former No. 2 overall draft pick. Wiseman joined the Pacers in the offseason on a two-year minimum contract that carried a partial guarantee and a team option for 2025-26, but he was waived roughly a week into the regular season as injuries mounted elsewhere on the roster.
Injury-plagued career
Wiseman missed the entire 2021-22 season following knee surgery, then suffered a torn Achilles in Indiana’s season opener last October, shelving him for the 2024-25 campaign. Through 149 NBA games with Golden State, Detroit and Indiana, he owns career averages of 9.1 points and 5.6 rebounds in just under 19 minutes.
Frontcourt depth concerns
Indiana’s center rotation—Jay Huff, Isaiah Jackson and Tony Bradley—has been intact all season, but Bradley is listed as questionable for Saturday with a fractured right thumb. Wiseman’s short-term deal offers immediate insurance while providing another chance to revive his career.
