The Indiana Pacers plan to bring forward Gabe McGlothan up from the G League on a 10-day hardship contract, Shams Charania of ESPN reported on December 16.
McGlothan, 26, went undrafted out of Grand Canyon University in 2024 and spent last season with the Grand Rapids Gold, the Denver Nuggets’ G League affiliate. Over the summer, the Noblesville Boom obtained his returning rights and have used him in a larger role this fall. In 14 G League Showcase Cup games, the 6-foot-6 forward has averaged 16.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.9 steals while shooting 52.6 percent from the field and 90.0 percent from the foul line.
Indiana qualifies for a hardship exception because Tyrese Haliburton, Obi Toppin, Aaron Nesmith and Ben Sheppard have each missed at least three straight games and are expected to remain sidelined for two more weeks. Standard 10-day deals are not permitted until January, but hardship contracts are allowed when a club has at least four such injuries.
The Pacers have already used the hardship provision this season, signing Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Cody Martin and Garrison Mathews to a combined five 10-day contracts; Mathews later received a rest-of-season agreement and remains on the roster.
McGlothan’s upcoming deal will give him his first opportunity in the NBA.
