The Indiana Pacers have altered their point-guard plans, bringing in veteran Delon Wright for training camp after a calf injury prevented Monte Morris from finalizing a previously arranged contract, general manager Chad Buchanan confirmed this week.

Wright, 32, is expected to sign a one-year, non-guaranteed agreement once he clears a physical, according to team insider Tony East. He will compete for a roster spot alongside fellow non-guaranteed additions James Wiseman and Tony Bradley. Indiana currently has 13 guaranteed contracts and three Exhibit 10 deals.

Wright’s recent résumé

The 10-year veteran split last season between Milwaukee and New York, appearing in 40 regular-season games and averaging 3.1 points. After joining the Knicks, his production rose to 4.3 points and 2.1 assists, and he saw action in six playoff contests. If he makes the Pacers’ roster, Indiana would become Wright’s 11th NBA team in 11 seasons.

Morris sidelined

Morris, 30, had been lined up for a similar non-guaranteed deal before the calf setback. He played 45 games for Phoenix last year, posting 5.2 points and 1.6 assists. Over 420 career games with Denver, Washington, Detroit, Minnesota and Phoenix, he has averaged 9.5 points and 3.6 assists.

With All-Star Tyrese Haliburton ruled out for the season, head coach Rick Carlisle will look to Wright to bolster depth behind Andrew Nembhard and T.J. McConnell as camp opens.
